I met and spent some time with the great Spanish artist and genius, Salvador Dali, in 1973 and again the following year. It was at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City.
Since at least my senior year of high school -- and energized to full throttle after I took an art appreciation course in college -- I've devoted my life to studying Dali's life and work. It's been a fascinating and rewarding journey.
This blog will cover virtually every aspect of Dali's far-reaching influence. I'm frankly unsure of precisely what direction or tone it will take. I already write a blog for The Salvador Dali Society, Inc., of Redondo Beach, Calif. (www.dali.com), presently called Interpretations of Dali, although it may take on a new name soon (tentative name: Eye On Dali!).
I also blog at www.meetingdali.blogspot.com
But The Dali Experience will be different. In some ways, less focused -- though I don't mean to suggest it will be scattered or unclear. Rather, it will be a kind of no-holds-barred forum. Anything goes here, so long as it pertains in some way to the multi-faceted jewel that was Salvador Dali.
So let's not get wordy here. Let's let The Dali Experience gain some sea legs and seek whatever level of boyancy it's destined to reach -- naturally, unrushed, unvarnished, and hopefully unparalleled!
Thanks for joining me. Oh, it's an old, grainy black & whote shot, but that's me (age 23) with the Master, at New York's St. Regis Hotel -- Dali and Gala's home for many winters.
